How to start building a dev and user community around an ongoing open source project?

I built and coded working prototypes (it's a hardware/software combo) and I need some help: I sometimes have good ideas but regarding dev skillz I'm an outright imposter...

• I can't type
• didn't learn how to use my code editor
• I don't know how to produce quality code
• neither use any of the popular version control systems

⇒ suite:

• I've never built multi-platform GUI apps (but need to)
• I don't have any contact in the community who would benefit from my project so I'm looking for alpha testers.

Who will help me finish this better mouse trap?

I don't want to face angry mobs complaining bug fixes are late nor my gizmo wasn't ready for release... but I can't finish this alone. Is there a guide “How to survive FOSS project maintenance”? For now, I'm collecting ressources: foss.dev (yes, I know this link is behind a logwall, I contacted the webadmin to correct this).
